Lakewood Church: Easter Service

I had the opportunity to come up with a video that played during a portion of the Easter Sunday Service at Lakewood Church. The tone and style of the music was inspired by “Retrograde” by James Blake, which made for a bit of a darker theme. Considering this was for a church service, the darker theme and imagery were both risks. But working with the other talented artists on this, we were able to find a balance that was appropriate for the audience. We were faced with a pretty quick deadline on this project, so I spent most of my time animating the alphabet of a preexisting font. I knew we would be highlighting words/phrases from the spoken word performance that was to happen during the video so my thought behind this approach was to get something that could be used over and over again but still had a unique quality to it. An animated alphabet is the perfect solution for this. Using the new library of my animated letters, I only needed to switch out letters to create a new word, thereby, creating a new animation. Creating reusable assets helped me hit the tight deadline with a day to spare.
