I was given the opportunity to work on an internal education initiative happening at BP. With the goal of giving an explanation to employees about BP’s approach to a series of industry-related subjects, The Fifth Business reached out for some help with the illustration and animation of a visual essay, also commonly referred to as an Explainer Video. This was an especially fun and challenging project in that, the brand itself is so serious and could easily be considered more restrictive with regard to brand guidelines and how far you can creatively push things. One might assume that an Explainer Video like this, that features cartoon characters, wouldn’t be an acceptable form of marketing collateral for an organization like this. But I think a good balance of serious and playful was found and we created something that they were really pleased to see.
