Projects I’ve worked on

About me

Hey guys! I’m Justin Brown, a freelance Creative Director and Motion Designer currently living in Houston, TX. I studied Graphic Design at the University of Tulsa where I received my BFA and have enjoyed 10+ years as a working creative professional. I love using Motion Design and Animation as a means of storytelling so animating show packages, title sequences, explainer videos, and other narrative-driven visuals are the types of projects where I’m most creative. As I continue learning the craft, my hope is that one day I’ll be able to tell the stories I’ve always wanted to tell—to add my puzzle piece to the greater whole of society.

The story behind the name

The Brown Crayon is more than just word play on my last name. Now, is this an ingenious blend of a name and a profession? Yes, yes it is. But that only scratches the surface of what I believe.

Once upon a time, in a magical land called Childhood, when our imaginations knew no bounds, the crayon was the foundation of our limitless creative expression. We knew how to do a lot with very little. However, more often than not, unless you were drawing a brown tree or a brown dog—or even brown people—the brown crayon was often overlooked and underused. We didn’t know its full potential. We failed to see that the creator who made it did so with the intention of making something beautiful and that, in the right hands, the brown crayon can be used to go above and beyond the limitations we placed on it. I hope you realize, by now, that I’m not really talking about crayons.

The Brown Crayon represents the passion and potential that each of us have to do wonderful things. People will forget about you until you show them your value and what you can do—that you’re not to be forgotten.
